Kickoff in Göttingen: Weekly COGNIGOALS Training Begins with a Powerful Performance Day

Prof. Torbjörn Vestberg
On April 27, 2025, a special project kicked off in Göttingen: One of our most innovative partners, MF Göttingen, has officially launched weekly COGNIGOALS training sessions!

As part of the sold-out COGNIGOALS Performance Day held in the sports hall of THG Göttingen, not only was an exciting afternoon of training delivered, but also a strong foundation laid for long-term collaboration.

Three fully booked groups of 12 participants each — including dedicated coaches, female players from MF Göttingen, and male players from JFV Göttingen — took part in the event. The strong participation and enthusiasm made it clear: interest in innovative motor-cognitive football training is on the rise — and COGNIGOALS is right at the forefront.

Live and in Action: Matthias Nowak Inspires with Motor-Cognitive Football Training

The event was led by Matthias Nowak, long-time technical and creative coach at FC Bayern Munich. With his dynamic and engaging style, he presented the COGNIGOALS training approach — a unique combination of technical ability, perception, and in-game decision-making.

The day kicked off at 2:00 p.m. with a hands-on coach development session, where practical exercises and coaching principles for enhancing cognitive skills in football were shared. At 3:00 p.m., it was the players’ turn: They participated in a high-energy, creative performance training session that clearly left a strong impression and lots of enthusiasm.

More Than a One-Off: The Start of Weekly COGNIGOALS Training

Even more exciting: The Performance Day was not just a standalone event — it also marked the official launch of weekly COGNIGOALS sessions at MF Göttingen.

The goal: to systematically strengthen players’ two-footedness, game intelligence, creativity, and decision-making under pressure — key elements of the COGNIGOALS training philosophy.

By embedding COGNIGOALS into the weekly training routine, the club is making a long-term investment in technical and cognitive player development — a strong signal for the future of football in the region.

Conclusion

The COGNIGOALS Performance Day in Göttingen was a complete success — with lasting impact! The positive feedback from players, coaches, and the club shows just how valuable motor-cognitive training is for modern football development.

We’re excited about the next stops on our journey — and look forward to partnering with even more clubs ready to elevate their players' two-footedness, game intelligence, and creative playmaking!
